Boy Cut
This series of personal portraits documents women with short hair, a.k.a., a ‘boy cut’- a non-trend, unfeminine and against Indian society’s prevalent perception of what a girl should look like. In a world that treats Indian hair as the epitome of physical beauty, these women, like so many others, choose to challenge the age-old norms of appearances, perceptions and patriarchy. They are working professionals, students pursuing higher education, taxpayers and the backbone of a rapidly growing economy. Every individual photographed in this series shares her story behind her decision to go short.
